Where We've Been stpeters_chrch

St. Peter Congregation was started by a group of Lutheran immigrants from Germany in 1868. On June 21 of that year Peter Christian Lieb began serving the congregation. The first official name was German Evangelical St. Peter Congregation in the Town of Freedom. It had 19 members. Land was purchased later that same year and a church building dedicated in December of 1869.

St. Peter joined the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) [this should be a link to www.wels.net] in 1870. The growing congregation built a newer, larger building in 1889 which was destroyed by a fire in May of 1907 before being rebuilt in December of 1907.

Services at St. Peter were held in German until 1925 when the transition was made to English. Serveral pastors have served St. Peter over it’s 140 year history. Most recently Pastor Ron Ash served from 1974 until his retirement in 2008. The current lead pastor, Tim Glende, has been serving St. Peter since 2006.
